A rapid reserve determination study was conducted to assess the impacts of hydro power generation on the water resources of the Tsitsa River (a tributary to the Mzimvubu River; Assessments by specialists included hydraulics (cross-section and discharge), macroinvertebrates, fish, riparian vegetation, geomorphology and water quality.

The Desktop Reserve and the Flow Stressor Response models within SPATSIM were used for the integration of data produced from the assessments. A specialist report detailing the results of the assessments and identifying a new ecological water reserve was compiled.
